North Defeats South 5-4 in the 10th Anniversary CHE All Star Game
The closest matchup in the ten year history of the CHE took place last week as the North All-Stars defeated the South 5-4. The entire game was closely conteseted as no team had more than a two goal lead. The South made a furious comeback with two goals in the thrid period, but it was not enough. Goalie Mike Inman (UPJ) was named MVP of the game, becoming the first goalie to be named MVP and also becoming the first MVP on the losing team. Inman stopped 21 of 22 shots in the first period, keeping the score tied at one.
Joey Manning (SVC) opened the scoring for the South 13 minutes into the game. The North responded two minutes later on a unassisted goal from Dan Clark (RMU D-III). Inman stood on his head, stopping numerous North chances. The North took over in the 2nd period, scoring four of the five goals. Scoring was balanced throughout the game, as no player had more than one goal.
The North took a 5-2 lead into the 3rd period, but the South made a great comeback. Goals by Ryan Mullen (IUP-II) and Joe Lenz (IUP-II) cut the lead to 5-4 with ten minutes left. The South couldn’t get that tying goal, as the North’s forecheck kept the puck in the South’s end until the final buzzer.
The 4th Annual Skills Competition was won by the North for the first time in history 21-11.
