2006-07 All-Star Game & Skills Competition

Date: Saturday, January 13, 2007
Location:
Center Ice Arena; Delmont, PA
Teams:
CHE South (Champions) vs. CHE North (Challengers)
Final Score: South 11 d. North 8
MVP: South, Matt Ward (#19, Saint Vincent College)
Skills Competition:
South 16 d. North 12

The South Division successfully defended their three game All Star winning streak in a high-scoring 11-8 victory over the North Division.  Matt Ward of Saint Vincent College was named the All Star Game MVP with two goals and three assists.  California of PA-I teammates Jamison Roth and BJ DePaoli combined for nine points to aid in the South’s victory.  Derek Lutterman from Robert Morris-DIII scored two goals and an assist in the North defeat.

The scoring started quickly with Jamison Roth scoring the first of his four goals eighteen seconds into the game, a CHE All-Star Game record!  The North quickly responded one minute later with Lutterman’s first goal on a nice assist from RMU D-III teammate Casey Schoub.  The South started to pull away at the end of the first period, scoring three unanswered goals in the last 12-minutes.

The North made a comeback in the 2nd period with Lutterman’s 2nd goal and a goal by Dan Pawlowski from Case Reserve.  The South responded with four more unanswered goals, with the game winner being scored by Tim Legath from Saint Vincent College.

The star of the 3rd period was CUP-I goalie Tim Johnson.  He stopped an amazing 25 of 27 shots he faced in the last frame.  The North kept coming on strong but couldn’t get enough goals past Johnson.  Roy King of Pittsburgh-II scored to bring the North closer, but they couldn’t get any closer than three goals.

Prior to the All-Star Game, the South defeated the North in the All-Star Skills Competition 16-12.  Over 400 people were on hand to see all of the best of College Hockey East on the ice at one time.  Overall, the All-Star event was a huge success for CHE!
