The CHE vs. MET League Showdown Only a few Weeks Away...
Friday, October 20, 2006

Hi Everyone,

The CHE vs. MET League Showdown is only a few weeks away and this unique tournament promises to be an exciting weekend of non-conference play.

This event is a collaboration of ideas from Scott Solomon (Metropolitan Collegiate Hockey Conference Commissioner), Tom Harper (CHE Associate Commissioner), and I.  Collectively we began talking well over a year ago discussing ideas to get our leagues involved in an event that would have our top teams in games against opponents that they normally may not get a chance to play.  We all know the exorbitant cost of travel and how difficult it can be to take a long road trip to play a non-conference opponent so we decided on something unique.  Scott, Tom and I had an idea to have an event held at a neutral site that would help reduce the overall costs while being promoted as an event that would bring fans and make it a much bigger happening.

The CHE vs. MET League Showdown is similar to the Ryder Cup in professional golf.  The showdown is designed to build league camaraderie while all of our participating teams get a chance to play against opponents for national ranking purposes.  The event is not focused on a team that wins the tournament, rather the league that wins.  The winning league of the tournament gets the Commissioner’s Cup.  All games will take place November 17-19, 2006, at Galactic Ice, located in Altoona, PA.

Here’s how the event works.  There will be points designated for winning a game, each period, a shutout, and a four goal differential.  The point’s values are as follows…

Win:  3 points for winning league

Shutout: 1 point for winning league

4+ Goal Win: 1 point for winning league

Period Win:  1 point (per period) for winning league

The game schedule for the event is as follows…

11/17: 3:00pm, Farmingdale vs. Pitt-Johnstown

11/17: 5:30pm, Fordham vs. IUP-II

11/18: 7:00am, Fordham vs. Pitt-Johnstown

11/18: 9:30am, Farmingdale vs. IUP-II

11/18: 3:00pm, Fairfield vs. California of PA-I

11/18: 5:30pm, Hofstra vs. Saint Vincent

11/19: 8:00am, Hofstra vs. California of PA-I

11/19: 10:30am, Fairfield vs. Saint Vincent

Scott, Tom and I are very excited about this event.  I’ve never heard of anything quite like this in hockey.  I have always been a proponent of unique ideas and trying something different.

I want to thank everyone for their patience throughout the planning process.  It is our intentions to make this an annual event that will get bigger and better.  We need your help and support to do so.

If anyone has any questions regarding the showdown, please contact me by e-mail at commissioner@collegehockeyeast.com.

Sincerely,

Chuck Kuzniewski, CHE Commissioner
